£15m player really wants Newcastle to make a bid for him in January – journalist

The January transfer window is almost upon us and Newcastle are one of the teams who may want to be busy next month.

Indeed, Newcastle’s season so far hasn’t gone to plan, and they’re some way off being in the top four despite recent improved results.

Newcastle do have some targets in mind for January.

Marc Guehi remains a Newcastle target, while the Magpies are keen on Bazoumana Toure too.

Speaking on NUFC Matters, Ben Jacobs has been discussing Newcastle’s January transfer plans, and he’s claimed that James Trafford could be an option for the Tyneside club.

James Trafford could be an option for Newcastle

Jacobs spoke about Trafford and a potential move to St James’ Park.

Trafford was linked with Newcastle in the summer.

The journalist says that Trafford would love Newcastle to make a move for him, and he could be available for around £15m.

“James Trafford we know has a bit more of a concrete history. Newcastle had negotiated and had pushed and made an offer,” Jacobs said.

“The player would love Newcastle to make another formal approach. The feeling is that Trafford might be available for £12-15m all in and Newcastle may be able to make that oe work. So Trafford could be one to watch.”

James Trafford stats at Burnley compared to Nick Pope

It is interesting to hear Trafford being linked with Newcastle. After all, the Magpies signed their most-recent number one goalkeeper from Turf Moor as well.

Pope and Trafford have both had spells as Burnley’s number one, and it’s interesting to compare the two players’ stats during their time in Lancashire.

Pope’s stats at Burnley are actually better than Trafford’s, and that’s in spite of the fact that Trafford has spent this season in the Championship where he’s expected to concede fewer goals in a more dominant side.

Of course, Pope isn’t getting any younger and Trafford is an up-and-comer, so this is a deal that would make a lot of sense.

However, if Trafford were to join Newcastle he may not be the Magpies’ number one straight away given that Pope is still operating at quite a solid level.

It will be interesting to see what Newcastle do in the January transfer window after a quiet summer in terms of spending.
