Tottenham Hotspur have had some interesting transfer near misses in recent years.
Conor Gallagher was a player Tottenham chased for a long time only to end up at Atletico Madrid, while Antonio Nusa was another Tottenham target who ended up elsewhere.
Spurs went in for Nusa last January, and, at one point, it looked like a deal would be done.
However, the Norwegian ultimately ended up staying at Club Brugge. Nusa would eventually end up joining RB Leipzig in the summer for £18m.
Nusa was very nearly a Tottenham player, but his true allegiances lie in the other half of north London.
Indeed, speaking to TV2 Sport on TikTok, Nusa has now admitted that he grew up as an Arsenal supporter.
Antonio Nusa supported Arsenal
Nusa gave an interesting answer when asked which team he grew up supporting.
The attacker says that he actually supported both Arsenal and Barcelona as a child.
Nusa has also been courted by Arsenal in the past as Edu scouted the player a few years ago.
“What was your favourite team when you were a little or a smaller child?” Nusa was asked.
“Arsenal and Barcelona, it was both of them,” Nusa said.
What Martin Odegaard has said about Antonio Nusa
Nusa may have joined RB Leipzig in the summer, but he does still have some admirers in north London.
Arsenal scouted Nusa a few years ago, while Gunners skipper, Martin Odegaard, is also a big fan of Nusa.
Indeed, Odegaard called Nusa an incredibly exciting player a few years ago when he was making his name as a youngster.
“Fantastic. He is an incredibly exciting player,” Odegaard said.
“You see it every time he gets the ball, it’s exciting. He is still young and will get even better. It was cool to see him. He deserved to get the chance that he takes to such an extent. Incredibly cool.”
As we’ve seen in recent years RB Leipzig can be a good stepping-stone club for any player looking to eventually make it to the Premier League, and if Nusa impresses in Germany in the next few years, he may well get his move to a club like Arsenal.
The 19-year-old is certainly a player to keep an eye on as he grows and develops.
