£30m player has just been left out of squad after he is linked with move to Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou plugged a huge gap in his squad by bringing the England international to N17 – finally providing his exciting Spurs team with a focal point in the No.9 role.
However, there have also been rumours that Tottenham could sign another striker in addition to Dominic Solanke – a forward who has just been left out of the matchday squad…
Ivan Toney dropped by Brentford amid Tottenham links
Ivan Toney has just been left out of the Brentford squad by Thomas Frank for the Premier League clash against Crystal Palace.
The England international took part in Brentford’s friendly against VfL Wolfsburg on August 9th – so his absence does not appear to be related to any injuries.
UPDATE: After the official starting lineups were released, Thomas Frank confirmed the matter was transfer related, saying: “Things are happening for Ivan Toney so we decided not to involve him in the squad. There’s interest, nothing closed yet but things are happening.”
It comes after the Independent claimed that Tottenham could still sign Toney despite the arrival of Solanke this summer.
The Brentford No.17 only has less than 11 months remaining on his contract with the Bees, and The Times believe Toney is available for just £30m as a result of that situation.
In truth, it is quite surprising that the man from Northampton remains with Brentford this late into the transfer window, as the Bees are surely unwilling to lose a £30m asset for nothing in 2025.
Spurs should make a move
While Solanke presumably wouldn’t be happy if Toney was brought to Hotspur Way so soon after his arrival, we believe Tottenham should make a bid, given the £30m asking price.
That is a complete and utter bargain for a 28-year-old England international who scored 20 Premier League goals in the 2022/23 campaign, a tally only bettered by Harry Kane and Erling Haaland.
Furthermore, the deal would also provide Postecoglou with a safety net in the No.9 department if Solanke suffered a serious injury.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as we wouldn’t be surprised if Tottenham made a bid to sign Toney, given the fact Postecoglou still has few options in the No.9 department behind Solanke…
