Ally McCoist believes Rangers could’ve done more in their 4-1 win against OG Nice in the Europa League.
The Gers travelled to France on 28 November, and a brace from Hamza Igamane, along with goals from Vaclav Cerny and Mohamed Diomande, sealed a hugely impressive victory for the Light Blues.
Speaking after the fixture on TNT Sports [28 November], McCoist was delighted with the outcome but felt that the Bears should’ve taken more opportunity to find the back of the net.
“It’s a brilliant result for Rangers. Fantastic result. Just how good Rangers were and just how poor Nice were, I’m not too sure. But they needed a pick me up, particularly after the weekend,” he said while on commentary.
“There’s no doubt about it that the level of performance in Europe has been by some stretch better than it has been domestically.
“Four goals. The majority of them gifted. Genuinely can’t believe I’m saying it, should’ve been six, seven, eight, which is absolutely remarkable. But against a depleted Nice side, it has to be said, with injuries and suspensions.
“Rangers performed well, and a fabulous, fabulous result.”
Rangers thumped OGC Nice in the Europa League
The scoreline on the day mimicked the one at Ibrox when Olympique Lyon took on Rangers in the European competition on 3 October.
The Gers left disappointed after the 4-1 loss to Les Gones, but they’ve exorcised some demons by felling another French outfit in the Europa League.
Philippe Clement desperately needed a performance like this from the Gers, with questions starting to mount over his future in the Glaswegian club’s dugout.
The Belgian has failed to bring the best out of his squad with the Light Blues sitting third in the league table, 11 points behind Celtic.
Clement must now bring consistency to his team and make bold decisions, like the one he made by starting Igamane ahead of Cyriel Dessers against Nice.
While it’s just one result, and the Belgian head coach can’t get ahead of himself, the thumping victory at the Allianz Riviera surely drowned out some of the noise around his future for the time being.
In other Rangers news, Dujon Sterling has risked suspension with what he did after the Nice victory.
