Jamie O’Hara has delivered a scathing verdict of Rangers following their start to the season and weekend defeat by Celtic.

Speaking live on talkSPORT [2 September], O’Hara, on air with Jason Cundy, discussed the season ahead for the Gers and Celtic following a 3-0 derby defeat for Philippe Clement’s side.

The loss leaves the Light Blues five points adrift of their rivals at the top after just four league games.

O’Hara, speaking to a phone-in caller who supported Celtic, said: “Celtic are on another level, aren’t they? Just Rangers, I watched the game and it seems like they’re drifting further and further away from [them].

“I mean you’ve won the league, you’ve won the league already, the league’s done.

“Rangers – absolutely shocking they were, I watched that game. Celtic [were] miles too good for them.”

Rangers miles away from Celtic

Rangers fans do not need to be told how predictable the Old Firm was – and it appeared an early indication of how this season is going to pan out from a league perspective.

The focus for Clement and his team is rather to attempt to keep pace for as long as possible, secure success in a cup competition and present a good showing of themselves in Europe.

If there is a lack of clarity now about what the project at Ibrox is supposed to look like, this needs to be ironed out, and quickly.

Despite the odd transfer rumour still floating about thanks to the differing transfer deadlines in various leagues around the world, Clement will be relieved to see the back of the window as he can now look to settle his squad.

The international break provides much-needed respite – although a hopeful return to Ibrox by the end of this month will at least be a major step in the right direction.
