Alan Myers: CL club approach Everton over another star, he's expected to leave

Everton have now received an approach from a Champions League over a deal for Amadou Onana, according to Alan Myers.

The Sky Sports journalist reported via Twitter on 14 June that the Belgian midfielder is expected to leave this summer in a big-money deal, with an enquiry now having arrived.

News on Onana comes the same day as Manchester United made an initial “unacceptable” offer for Jarrad Branthwaite, which has already been rejected [Liverpool Echo, 14 June].

Myers wrote: “Understand a Champions League club has made an enquiry to Everton regarding midfielder Amadou Onana.

“The 22 year old Belgian international is expected to leave this summer and is valued at around £50M.”

Amadou Onana and Jarrad Branthwaite wanted for Everton exits

An explosion of activity has arrived around Everton just as Euro 2024 is set to kick off in Germany, with Branthwaite and Onana both being targeted just as crucial developments have emerged in the takeover race.

Some news is more positive than others, with answers clearly needed with regards to the ownership and the transfer market.

Holding onto Branthwaite and sacrificing Onana is seen as the preferable course of action at Goodison Park this summer [Paul Joyce, 30 May], so the fact that a market appears to now be developing around the latter might help the Toffees avoid losing the former.

Sky Sports (29 May) had claimed there was no route to sell the midfielder yet which could put pressure on a sale of the defender before 30 June, but the latest update appears to have changed that.

Amadou Onana is expected to leave Everton this summer.

A fire sale has been ruled out at Everton despite the financial pressures, but departures are still thought to be necessary, so if a club is willing to put the £50million asking price on the table for Onana it would ease the situation all round.

However, with United having come in with a bid for Branthwaite well below the Toffees’ value it might not immediately be so straight forward.

In other Everton news, a third Toffees star is now not going to be moving to a Premier League rival.
