Alan Myers has relayed a message from Everton which confirmed that the Friedkin Group will not be completing a takeover at Goodison Park.
Myers posted via his official X account (19 July), “Following a period of exclusivity, discussions between Blue Heaven Holdings and The Friedkin Group over a potential sale of a majority stake in Everton have ended and The Friedkin Group will not be progressing with a purchase of the Club.
“Both Blue Heaven Holdings and The Friedkin Group entered discussions in good faith to explore whether a sale could be agreed.
“Those discussions have concluded. The parties agree it is in both their interests for Everton to explore alternative options.”
Everton must find new prospective owners after Dan Friedkin decision at Goodison Park
After the collapse of a second takeover, it is once again back to square one. It goes without saying that this is an absolutely devastating blow for everybody at Goodison Park.
It seems to have come rather out of the blue too. Most supporters were probably focussed on who the club were set to sign, and how pre-season preparations were going.
While the takeover would have no doubt been a priority behind the scenes, it became something of an afterthought among the fanbase as talks seemed to be progressing smoothly.
However, from out of absolutely nowhere, it has now been confirmed that those talks have collapsed.
This plunges the Toffees back into more trouble and now ensures that the takeover saga will drag on well into next season, and potentially even beyond.
There will be plenty of questions for officials at the Merseyside-based club to answer, and fans will demand those answers sooner rather than later.
