Alan Myers has shared what a Texas contact has told him about the family of Dan Friedkin as a deal is underway to take over Everton.

Friedkin has agreed to acquire the 94.1% majority stake at Goodison Park from Farhad Moshiri, after it had appeared Crystal Palace shareholder John Textor was the frontrunner.

Myers, writing for Sky Sports [26 September], says Friedkin comes from “good, honest people” in his family background, courtesy of his US-based contact.

“People who know of them in Texas describe them to me as a very respected family, ‘good honest people’ one contact told me,” he said.

“However, the Everton fans will want to know what kind of experience he will bring to their club after a number of troubled years both in and off the pitch. For a glimpse of that supporters need to look no further than Italy and AS Roma. Friedkin bought the club in 2020 for just under £600million, effectively the same as he will likely pay for Everton.

“They are business men and will not shy away from making the tough decisions if their business becomes affected by performance, this was demonstrated again with the sacking of Daniele De Rossi, a club legend, following a run of four games without victory at the start of this season.”

Everton hope for progress under Dan Friedkin

Everton fans are crying out for stability, and they will be using Roma as a template as Myers said to measure how they may fare with Friedkin at the helm.

These are encouraging words about the imminent owners of the club, following a rollercoaster of proposed deals and options on the table.

The timing is right ahead of the move to the Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium next year, and Toffees supporters are eager to return to the days they were far more of a force on the pitch in the Premier League.

For now, staying in the division is the utmost priority following a poor start, and Sean Dyche is under increasing pressure to get a tune out of his players.

With Friedkin expected to begin by backing Dyche, this could have a more relaxed and positive effect on the management, and consequently the dressing room.
