Alan Myers shares what he has been 'Told' about Everton transfer links with Sekou Koita

Alan Myers has admitted he has been told there is “nothing in” the links between Everton and Sekou Koita in the summer transfer window.

Reports had emerged from Africa that the Toffees were set to sign the free agent following the expiry of his contract at RB Salzburg, with personal terms already supposedly agreed between the parties [Africa Foot, 3 July].

While Sky Sports journalist Myers had previously suggested that he had “no idea” if the Blues’ interest was genuine, he has now confirmed that as far as he has been told a move is not on the cards at this time.

Replying to a fan on X on Friday (5 July) who asked: “Can you end this now and let us know if it’s bull or not?”, Myers said: “I’m told nothing in it.”

Are Everton close to any new signings in the summer transfer window?

This link had seemed to come out of nowhere and while it did seem like the sort of move that may have potentially interested the Toffees, it seems as though it was little more than some of the usual speculation seen in the transfer window.

Sean Dyche and Kevin Thelwell have moved quickly to strengthen their squad this summer with the signings of Iliman Ndiaye and Tim Ireogbunam and while more additions will be desired, nothing seems imminent.

A new striker could be required if Dominic Calvert-Lewin departs Merseyside as some expect in the coming weeks, but at this moment in time, the Blues’ focus could be directed towards other areas of the pitch.

Hopefully, one or two new faces will arrive at Goodison Park before the Premier League season gets back underway. However, it will be just as important that they keep the likes of Jarrad Branthwaite and Jordan Pickford amid growing speculation.

The start of the window has been impressive, but it is only a start.

In other Everton news, the Toffees could be set to command a fee of £100million for Jarrad Branthwaite next summer
