Ange Postecoglou is keen to tie Timo Werner to a long-term contract at Tottenham, according to The Sunday Mirror.
The Germany forward is on a second loan spell with Spurs and Darren Witcoop wrote in the Sunday Mirror‘s print edition (1 December, page 73) that Postecoglou wants him to remain part of his squad.
Spurs have an £8.5million purchase option on the former Chelsea attacker, who spent the second half of last season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium too.
What can Timo Werner do for Tottenham?
Although £8.5m is not a big ask from Spurs to make this loan deal a permanent one, it surely raises questions over the levels of ambition at Tottenham.
The forward has no Premier League goals and only two assists so far this season, which is hardly mind-blowing form that warrants conversations over his long-term future at this stage.
In addition to this, his performances during his time with Spurs have highlighted his inconsistency and many supporters will feel they are yet to be truly convinced by him.
Since Postecoglou’s arrival in North London, there have been plenty of expectations on the boss to deliver success to the club and lift the standards and at this stage, Werner hasn’t done enough to prove that he could be a true part of that success.
Although it is certainly one that could be monitored, should he pick up his form during the season, at this stage it might feel a little underwhelming.
In other Tottenham news, a transfer update means Richarlison faces being transfer listed.
