Tottenham Hotspur got their Europa League campaign off to a great start with a 3-0 victory over Qarabag FK.
Admittedly, it wasn’t the easiest of nights for Spurs, who often rode their luck after playing most of the game with ten men, while captain Son Heung-min suffered a suspected knock midway through the second half.
Ange Postecoglou’s charges suffered another early setback when Radu Dragusin was shown a straight red card in the seventh minute for bringing down Juninho as the last man.
Despite such a major issue early on, Spurs went on to take the lead in the 12th minute of the game.
Brennan Johnson got his third in three games when he slotted the ball into the bottom-left corner after great work from Dominic Solanke.
Pape Matar Sarr then doubled the Lilywhites’ lead in the 52nd minute, side-footing in at the back post after Dejan Kulusevski’s corner wasn’t properly cleared.
Solanke went on to make it two in two for Spurs as he slotted home in the 68th minutes after Mateusz Kochalski parried a shot into his path.
Son Heung-min ‘a bit tired’ after coming off for Tottenham
One concern for Tottenham was a suspected knock for Son, who received treatment and had to come off in the 70th minute, walking gingerly off the pitch.
Postecoglou told reporters after the game, as per football.london: “He said he was a bit tired but I haven’t spoken to him or the medical staff yet.”
Alasdair Gold also posted on X about what the Spurs boss said. The football.london journalist admitted he initially thought Postecoglou said “tight”, but on listening back, it sounded like “tired”.
Tottenham fans will hope Son’s issue isn’t anything serious, as the Spurs captain is instrumental to the team and would be a huge miss if forced to spend time on the sidelines.
Further updates on Son’s condition are likely to come in the next few hours after the club’s medical staff carry out checks on the Tottenham forward.
