Another medical emerges inside next 48 hours after permanent Rangers exit confirmed - report

Borna Barisic is expected in Turkey for his Trabzonspor medical this weekend after his exit from Rangers, Isci Haber reports.

According to the Turkish outlet on 20 June the Croatian is due to arrive for tests on Sunday 23 June ahead of joining his new side, after the left-back was confirmed by the Light Blues to be leaving Ibrox as his contract expired this summer.

Barisic, as was expected towards the end of last season, will join John Lundstram who is also set for his medical the same day with the two Glasgow to Trabzon moves set to go ahead in parallel.

The pair were released by Rangers along with Ryan Jack, Kemar Roofe and Jon McLaughlin as Philippe Clement revamps the Gers squad.

Borna Barisic joins John Lundstram after Rangers departure

The Light Blues boss had indicated he would prefer Barisic to stay at Ibrox during the early stages of his tenure last season [Football Scotland, 3 November].

But talk of an extension faded away as the campaign wore on and the 31-year-old finally lost his place to Ridvan Yilmaz.

Noises around Lundstram staying persisted for far longer but both players’ futures have gone the same way all the same, and they may even be sharing a flight to Turkey to confirm their next moves.

Rangers Borna Barisic
Borna Barisic has left Rangers after six seasons in Glasgow.

Barisic’s defending may have been frequently criticised, particularly with regards to high-profile Old Firm derby defeats to Celtic, but his delivery from the left wing was arguably the best in the Scottish Premiership.

His departure is probably not before time and Jefte has been brought in by Clement and Nils Koppen, but he is yet another senior player who leaves for nothing in the past 12 months rather than the club securing a fee before his deal ended.
