Arsenal to bank '£60m' as new deal struck but announcement won't be until next year

Arsenal’s return to the upper echelons of English European football has brought myriad financial benefits.

Seven seasons away from the Champions League meant Arsenal lost out on around £40m per year compared to their peers who qualified for the competition.

There was a knock-on effect in terms of their sponsorship and merchandise income too, with the Gunners’ commercial revenue of £173m at the last count easily the lowest of the so-called Big Six.

The North London club are yet to release their accounts for 2023-24, but when they do they are expected to reflect the on-pitch success inspired by Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar..

Finishing 2nd in successive seasons in the Premier League is one step away from what the two men had hoped to achieve, but it has breathed new life into the Emirates financially.

Sell-out crowds were the norm in 2023-24, so much so that Josh Kroenke has admitted that Arsenal are considering expanding the stadium.

Arsenal’s commercial team also have a lot to thank Arteta for – and the latest news coming from N5 illustrates exactly that.

Arsenal seal new partnership as commercial revenue to soar

While it was a relatively modest window for Arsenal in the summer, the club were the busies in the Premier League when it comes to commercial income.

In the era of PSR and given that Stan Kroenke wants Arsenal to und its own transfer dealings as opposed to relying on his investment, this is crucial for the future of the club.

They have signed new commercial agreements with, among others Chivas Regal and NTT Data in recent weeks. And another fresh name has now been added to their list of partners.

Arsenal announced that the company ComAve have now become their official ecommerce partner.

As well as improving Arsenal’s ability to sell merchandise online, the deal – which is their 30th in total – will help improve the club’s bottom line.

Sports finance journalist Łukasz Bączek, for example, projects that when Arsenal release their accounts next year, their year-on-year commercial income will have risen by £60m.

Arsenal gaining ground on rivals financially

Arsenal’s revenue – like their commercial income – was the lowest of the Big Six in 2022-23, the last year for which financial data is available.

However, the return to the Champions League will shrink if not eliminate the gap.

This season, they can expect to overtake Chelsea in terms of their overall revenue given the West London club’s absence from Europe.

And while fans will have to wait for confirmation of their commercial income until early next year, it will give them a platform to spend in January if licensed to by the Kroenke regime.
