'At this stage...': Fabrizio Romano shares late night update on Emerson Royal's Tottenham exit

Tottenham are trying to offload Brazilian defender Emerson Royal but things are not looking as easy as they might have first thought.

Spurs are working on their squad this summer as they look to bring new players in to strengthen the ranks, while also moving certain players on.

Among the players being looked at in terms of an exit is Emerson Royal.

The Brazilian defender is believed to be on the radar of AC Milan. Indeed, it’s been claimed that Paulo Fonseca has even held direct talks with Royal over a move to Italy.

However, while Tottenham have no issue with allowing Royal to move on elsewhere, there does seem to be some differences when it comes to the fee involved.

And according to Fabrizio Romano, that is holding things up a lot as it stands.

Tottenham not willing to budge when it comes to Emerson Royal and AC Milan

According to Fabrizio Romano, who has taken to his X account tonight to update the situation, has claimed that talks are at a bit of an impasse when it comes to Royal and Milan.

Updating everyone on the current scenario, Romano has confirmed that things are no longer advancing due to Tottenham wanting more than £20m for the defender.

Royal played a key role for Spurs last season but was more of a squad player than someone Ange Postecoglou would pick out of preference.

Pedro Porro is the main man at right-back at Spurs and while Royal can provide cover across the back four, he wants to play first-team football as a regular starter.

A move to Milan is thought to be high on Royal’s agenda.

However, it looks like Tottenham are holding firm as they look to recoup some of the £26m they splashed out in the first place.

Royal, then, might well end up getting frustrated in the coming weeks.
