Because of their well-documented financial woes, Barcelona are not expected to be very active during the winter transfer window, which opens next month. The only possible incoming at this stage would be Antonio Cordero, who has been gaining traction within the Catalan club over the last few months.
Cordero has been a standout performer for Malaga this season, and with his contract running out at the end of the season, Barcelona have entertained the possibility of signing him in January for a fee in the region of €2m. However, MD say that they are not confident of this happening.
If Cordero were to join next month, it’s likely that he’d be primarily utilised at Barca Atletic, who play one tier below Malaga. As such, it would not be overly attractive for the 17-year-old to make the move.
It remains to be seen how Cordero’s situation plays out. He would be a top signing for Barcelona given his potential, although acquiring his services will be easier said than done.
