On Saturday, it was reported that Aston Villa are closing in on the signing of Amadou Onana. Barcelona considered the Everton midfielder as top target to reinforce their pivot options ahead of next season, but ultimately, they will miss out on securing his signature.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona were willing to match Aston Villa’s offer for Onana, believed to be in the region of £50m. However, they decided against placing a bid because they are prioritising the signing of Nico Williams from Athletic Club.
Barça considered Amadou Onana among targets but they won’t send any bid he’s close to Aston Villa.
The reason is clear: Barça are completely focused on Nico Williams as top target.

Barcelona are desperate to sign Williams as their new left winger, and he has the entire approval of all members of the sporting department. Earlier this week, reports claimed that personal terms had already been agreed upon, and further movement is expected in the days after the Euro 2024 final, which Williams will be playing in for Spain.
As things stand, Barcelona’s finances will not allow more than one big-money money to be made. Club officials are focusing on a return to La Liga’s 1:1 rule, after which a proper assault for Williams can be made.
