Barcelona have made the call to omit Frenkie de Jong from their preseason tour of the USA.
The Dutch international was forced to miss out on Euro 2024 duty with the Netherlands due to a persistent ankle problem, and his return date is unknown.
Despite initially joining up with the La Oranje squad, de Jong needed to pull out, and Ronald Koeman has slammed Barcelona’s handling of his overall fitness.
Koeman claimed de Jong has informed him there is no suggestion over when he can return to first team action with surgery an option for the former Ajax schemer.
As per the latest update from Diario AS, de Jong has now been advised by the Barcelona medical staff to miss the trip across the Atlantic, to continue his rehabilitation in Catalonia.
De Jong’s fitness is another concern ahead of the 2024/25 campaign with striker Ansu Fati expected to miss the start start due to a foot problem.
