Pat Nevin believes that despite Everton having a poor start to their clash against Chelsea on Sunday that Sean Dyche is doing an “exceptional job” at Goodison Park.
The game ended in a 0-0 draw as both sides left Merseyside with a point to add to their Premier League tally.
Dyche’s future as Everton boss has been under some severe scrutiny this season but with their recent performances against the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea, it feels like he’s safe for the moment.
Speaking on BBC Radio Five Live (22 December, 16:04pm), BBC pundit Nevin shared his thoughts on the performance of Dyche as Everton manager.
“Even though Everton had a bad start to the season, the manager knows how to do this and he knows how to get the most out of his players,” he said.
“I think Sean Dyche does an exceptional job”.
Sean Dyche is the right man for Everton at the moment
Although the Friedkin Group have only just assumed control of the Merseyside outfit over the last week or so, there’s no doubt that some behind-the-scenes talks will have taken place about where the future of the Toffees lies.
While fans are likely to want instant change with the new owners coming in, it feels like it would be a bit of a rash decision for the Friedkin’s to sack Dyche at the moment.
The former Burnley boss has made a name for himself as a survival specialist thanks to his many years with the Clarets and the performance he led Everton to last season.
At the moment, Everton sit 15th in the Premier League table and only have a four-point cushion separating them from the relegation zone.
Only time will tell whether Dyche will be offered an extension at Goodison Park but if he can keep his team performing at the sort of level they showed against Arsenal and Chelsea, he’ll be well on his way to keeping his role.
