BBC Sportsound apologises to listeners after what Michael Stewart said about Rangers star

BBC Sportsound have apologised for Michael Stewart swearing live on air as he spoke about Todd Cantwell at Rangers on 3 August.

The English playmaker has submitted two transfer requests at Ibrox this summer after talks with Philippe Clement and was not involved against Hearts on the opening day.

Stewart insisted that wouldn’t bother the rest of the squad too much before his foul-mouthed analysis continued ahead of kick-off at Tynecastle.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound pre-match [3 August, 12:25], Stewart shared his verdict on the Rangers squad potentially wanting him to stick around.

“It dependent on the actual character, if he’s regarded as a good lad and a strong member of the team then personally, I would be thinking that you just hope he can be persuaded and his mind can change, that he can hang about,” he said.

“If he’s a bit of a [p-word] and you don’t really like him, maybe you’re thinking to yourself that you don’t want him in the changing room and you’d rather he left.”

BBC Sportsound host Kenny MacIntyre apologised at half-time: “You’re listening to Sportsound on opening weekend of the league season, goalless at Tynecastle, we want to apologise for any offence caused by language in the pre-match chat that was before kick-off.”

The season has literally just kicked off and we are already listening to Stewart lose his mind when covering Rangers, as he usually does.

Clement has left the door open to Cantwell despite his transfer requests, so that may show that he hasn’t rocked the boat too much with the squad.

Players are being sold frequently to raise money for new signings, so it makes more sense to get rid and start again in that area of the pitch.

There was a real lack of cutting edge from both teams on the opening day, which could be forgiven, with the long ball being overused at times by Clement and his squad.

Tom Lawrence was the central creative option and despite a solid enough outing, having someone like Cantwell brings a different spark and that was very clear.

Cyriel Dessers missed a couple of big chances again, but it was very clear throughout that Nils Koppen will be very busy for the remainder of the month.

In other Rangers news, David Edgar shared his reaction after the Gers announced the signing of Robin Propper at Ibrox.
