Benjamin Šeško’s contract renewal makes Arsenal turn to Super Eagles striker
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have their gaze fixed on Super Eagles and Napoli striker, Victor James Osimhen, after their primary target signed a new deal with RB Leipzig, Soccernet.ng reports.
The record FA Cup Champions are looking to bolster their attack with a renowned goal-scorer and were keen on RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško, but instead, the Slovenian signed a new deal with the German side.
The new contract will see the 21-year-old striker stay at the Red Bull Arena till the summer of 2029, landing a huge blow to Arsenal, Chelsea, and A.C. Milan who were interested in his services.
Benjamin Šeško scored 14 goals in 17 Bundesliga starts last season, rebuffing offers from England to remain in Germany. Following this action, Arsenal have shifted their attention elsewhere in a bid to bring in a 20-goal per season striker as they look to go toe-to-toe with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City after missing out on the EPL title two seasons in a row.

TalkSPORT’s chief football correspondent Alex Crook, revealed that Arsenal’s preferred alternatives for Šeško include Napoli marksman – Victor Osimhen and Juventus striker – Dusan Vlahovic, who previously rejected the Gunners.

“Šeško will sign a new contract, probably with a release clause. I think this time next year we’re going to be talking about him again, but it is a blow for Arsenal because they need that a striker. Names mentioned to me earlier today in terms of alternatives, the likes of Victor Osimhen, but he’s got a massive release clause [£112million]. Vlahovic as well, but obviously they flirted with him before, and he didn’t really give them the time of day, so I can’t really see that one,” Crook told TalkSPORT.

Osimhen is regarded as one of the deadliest strikers in world football, scoring 76 goals across four seasons in Naples, alongside winning the league and the Golden Boot in the 2022/2023 Serie A season.
