'Beware of surprises' - Report suggests Everton could beat Euro club to £25.7m striker signing

Everton could beat AC Milan to the signing of Roma striker Tammy Abraham, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Writing in their newspaper [9 August, pg 27], the outlet reported that Everton could try to usurp Milan in the race for Abraham and secure the signing from under their noses, writing “beware of surprises in the Premier League” with Leicester City also named as an interested party.

Roma are looking to sell two or three players this summer to fund a rebuild of Daniele De Rossi’s side with Abraham high on the list of departures with the Serie A club looking to recoup £25.7m for the striker according to Gazzetta.

Will Everton beat AC Milan to the signing of Tammy Abraham?

Sean Dyche has a clear transfer policy at Goodison Park this summer, the Blues have targeted players off the back of poor seasons in Europe and Abraham is the latest player to fit the bill.

The 26-year-old missed most of the season last term with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, he returned towards the business end of the campaign with one goal and one assist in eight Serie A appearances.

He joined Roma from Chelsea in 2021 and was an immediate success in Rome, he scored 27 goals with five assists in 53 appearances across all competitions but his impact dwindled the following year with only nine goals and seven assists in 54 outings.

The Portuguese striker was a hot prospect in Italy with Udinese and, after just three goals in 30 Premier League appearances last term, there are doubts about his ability to lead the line for Everton this season.

Abraham at 6ft 3in, is the perfect mould for what Dyche wants in a striker, he has already proven his aerial threat at Chelsea and could be the target man that the Blues are looking for.

Everton had one of the best defensive records in the league last season but struggled to score the goals to match, Abraham needs to revive his career and a return to England could improve his chances of selection for the national side, the move makes sense for all parties and the Blues would have a top striker on their hands if he can replicate his early form at Chelsea and Roma.
