Bolton Exclusive: Big Joel Randall update today

Bolton Wanderers have pulled the plug on a deal to sign Peterborough midfielder Joel Randall, sources have told Football Insider.

The League One outfit have had multiple offers for the 24-year-old rejected this summer, and have now turned their back on the move.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 30 June that Posh had turned down a six-figure bid from Bolton and would demand a higher fee for his sale.

Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony is a notoriously tough negotiator who is known to demand high fees for the sale of key players.

Sources say Bolton will now pursue other targets both domestically and abroad after narrowly missing out on promotion to the Championship last season.

Bolton Wanderers walk away from Joel Randall deal

Randall joined Peterborough in a deal worth £1million in the summer of 2021 and has since made 84 appearances for the club in League One and the Championship.

After establishing himself as a key player under Darren Ferguson, the club are reluctant to sell to a direct promotion rival and will demand a fee north of what they paid for him three years ago.

Peterborough missed out on promotion last season after they were defeated by Oxford United in the playoff semi-final, while Bolton fell to the same opponents in the final.

Randall emerged as one of the top names on Bolton’s shortlist given his experience in the EFL and following his impressive displays last season.

In 56 games for Peterborough, the midfielder scored 12 goals and finished just behind Ephrom Mason-Clark as the club’s second-highest goalscorer.

He also provided 11 assists, catching the eye of clubs across England with his displays.

Bolton will now turn their attention to other targets after being priced out of a deal, while Posh remain firm in their stance to keep Randall at the club beyond this summer.
