'Brothers' - John Souttar sends message to attacker who was once linked with Rangers

Rangers’ John Souttar responded to an Instagram post from Ryan Gauld in the wake of Scotland’s draw against Portugal on Tuesday (15 October).

Gauld had been linked with a move to Rangers back in 2021 [Vital Rangers]. However, no move materialised and the talented forward instead ventured to MLS joining Vancouver Whitecaps.

Souttar played the full 90 minutes with his childhood friend and teammate Gauld making an appearance off the bench in the goalless Nations League clash.

In the comments to Gauld’s social media post, Souttar responded with “Brothers” followed by a heart emoji.

Ryan Gauld transfer was a missed opportunity for Rangers

The Scotsman has had an outstanding year in the MLS registering 14 assists and nine goals in 29 appearances.

In his 129 overall appearances for the club, Gauld has registered a total of 80 goal contributions which is s remarkable return.

Whilst it’s impossible to say whether the transfer would have been a success, it’s certainly not unreasonable to assume it would have been, in hindsight.

Many Gers fans will know the name from his time at Dundee United where he was labelled as a wonderkid before making a huge move to Portuguese giants Sporting CP where he would go on to make over 70 appearances.

Rangers have a number of talented forwards in their ranks with the likes of Tom Lawrence and Ross McCausland both shining so far this season, however, it is certainly interesting to contemplate what could have been if the Gers were able to finalise a deal to sign Gauld.

In other Rangers news, Stan Collymore has namedropped Rangers when explaining why England were almost forced into hiring Thomas Tuchel.
