Real Madrid have shown in recent years that their transfer strategy will be calm and considered, and the likelihood of them splashing the cash immediately after missing out on Leny Yoro was always slim. However his signing for Manchester United was a setback, and now they do not have the defensive options they had planned for.
Los Blancos have been keen to ensure to put out a message of calm, and there’s been no shortage of reports that Aurelien Tchouameni will be used in central defence if needs be. However Matteo Moretto has revealed to Football España that manager Carlo Ancelotti is keen to bring in another centreal defender. While it is true that Real Madrid will not act impulsively, the Italian coach would be in favour of them bringing a fourth option, not counting Jesus Vallejo, who is not in their plans.
One of the things that explains Ancelotti’s ability to survive and thrive at Real Madrid is his management of his superiors though. He has been aware of when he can push matters, and where to accept the state of play. If anything, his capacity to adapt has worked against him in terms of having his requests in the market fulfilled.
