Christopher Nkunku: Man United insider shares 'certain' transfer update

Chelsea star Christopher Nkunku is a transfer target for Man United ahead of the upcoming January window, according to their former chief scout.

Mick Brown, who spent over a decade at Old Trafford during the club’s most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that Nkunku is on their list of targets either for January or the summer window.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 18 November that the 27-year-old could push for a move away from Chelsea amid limited first-team opportunities.

So far this season, he has started just one Premier League game and has completed 90 minutes just twice in 17 total appearances across all competitions.

As a result, United are said to be keeping a close eye on his situation and could swoop for the player who has been tipped to “cause problems” for the Blues.

Brown was in attendance at the Champions League clash between Man City and RB Leipzig in 2021, where he witnessed Nkunku bag a hattrick.

Now, he has insisted he would be a great addition to Ruben Amorim’s side, and would fit his style of play perfectly with his speed and pressing abilities.

Following the arrival of Amorim to replace Erik ten Hag, the recruitment team at Old Trafford have already begun identifying potential options to bolster his side.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment and spent 12 years at Man United, insisted that Nkunku is “more than good enough” to start games regularly at the top level, and could now be moved on by Chelsea.

“From what I hear, Man United are certainly interested,” he told Football Insider.

“I’m told he’s on their list of targets and one they could look to snap up either in January or the summer.

“He’s one of these modern-day players where he’s not really a striker, not really a midfielder, and not really a winger. He’s sort of a combination of all three.

“So when you look at Amorim’s Sporting team, the forwards are all quick and they play off the back of defenders and put them under pressure.

“Nkunku strikes me as the sort of player who would fit into that perfectly.

“He’s also more than good enough to play every week at this level.

“I watched him play a few years ago playing against Manchester City in the Champions League and he played in that sort of inside-right position.

“He caused all sorts of trouble for them with his pace and pressing that day.

“He scored a hattrick, but his team got beaten 6-3. I was staggered at what I saw. He was lethal.

“Next thing I heard, he was going to Chelsea, but the situation they’re in now is difficult for him.

“It’s starting to cause problems for them, because players as good as he is want to be playing every week, not just rotated for cup competitions.“
