Club lines up move for Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers, £4.2m fee previously mentioned - reports

Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers is back “in the crosshairs” of Cagliari for a possible transfer this summer, according to Tutto Mercato Web.

The Italian outlet reported on 10 August that the Serie A side have turned their attention back towards Dessers and are lining him up as a replacement for outgoing striker Gianluca Lapadula.

Dessers has been touted for a £4.2million exit from Ibrox this summer with the Gers on the hunt for a new striker, with Cagliari one of the clubs to have registered their interest [TuttoMercato, 10 July].

In a perfect world, Philippe Clement would have already signed the free-scoring forward the Gers have been crying out for this summer – and that likely would have freed up Dessers to complete a move away.

However, circumstances at Ibrox have been fair from ideal thus far, with Ibrox itself out of action until September at the earliest following delayed developments to the Copland Road Stand.

On the striker front, the Gers are yet to break bank in their bid to sign a new first-choice number nine, though Hamza Igamane has been brought in from FAR Rabat for a fee north of £1.5m.

Dessers though, remains in post – and in form too, having decisively found the back of the net in two of the Light Blues’ three matches so far this season against Dynamo Kyiv and Motherwell respectively.

The 29-year-old’s last-gasp equaliser against Dynamo in Lublin gives Philippe Clement’s side parity ahead of the second leg at Hampden, and as such the Belgian will be in no mood whatsoever to take Dessers out of the frontline any time soon.
