Everton captain Seamus Coleman has hailed Dominic Calvert-Lewin for his performance against Bournemouth on Saturday [31 August].
The 27-year-old doubled the lead with a well-taken finish past Kepa Arrizabalaga, seven minutes after Michael Keane opened the scoring for the Blues.
Coleman spoke to the Liverpool Echo [1 September] after the 3-2 defeat at Goodison Park and lauded Calvert-Lewin despite the Toffees incredibly surrendering a two-goal lead on the day having led 2-0 in the 87th minute.
He said: “He was brilliant today and took his goal very well, so I’m sure the goals will keep coming for him. It’s up to us as a group to not concede like we did there.”
Dominic Calvert-Lewin can play vital role for Everton this season
As the 30 August transfer deadline approached it appeared more and more likely that Calvert-Lewin would leave Everton this summer [Liverpool Echo].
Sean Dyche admitted that the club were willing to sanction the sale of his talisman [Daily Mail] if an appropriate offer arrived but, to the surprise of the Everton supporters, Calvert-Lewin will see out the final year of his contract at Goodison Park until January at least.
The Blues did strengthen their forward line on deadline day with the loan signing of Chelsea striker Armando Broja however, it seems the Albanian alongside Beto will have to fight for a starting berth in the side after Calvert-Lewin’s performance on the weekend.
One positive note from the collapse against Bournemouth is the Blues are back on the scoresheet after failing to find the back of the net in their opening two Premier League fixtures.
It will not have been an easy summer for the Englishman with constant speculation regarding his future but, his goal contributions will be vital for the Blues’ success this season and all faith must be bestowed upon him to find his goalscoring touch and fire Everton out of their early season rut.
In other Everton news, Sean Dyche slammed for ‘criminal’ Jesper Lindstrom decision at the Toffees.
