Manchester United secured something of a coup in beating Real Madrid to the signing of Leny Yoro, paying over the odds in a deal worth €72m to Lille, and a contract reaching at least €45m for the player. However it was surprising to some that they were the only competition for Los Blancos.
Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain were interested in Yoro, but the former dropped out after Yoro agreed terms with Los Blancos. As did PSG, but they did not match United’s offer, or at least provide a competing one, once it became clear there was a chance of him going elsewhere. According to Marca, the reason was that PSG had carried out medical tests on Yoro and detected a weakness in his metatarsal.
United were willing to take the risk in spite of his foot issues, but have been stung early by a two-month injury for Yoro, after playing in a friendly for Erik ten Hag. Hopefully this will be the last of it for the talented 18-year-old, who looks as if he could turn into one of the best in the world.
