Reigning United Arab Emirates Pro League champions Al Wasl have officially confirmed the signing of Nigerian international Isaac Success Ajayi, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Super Eagles striker joins the club on a free transfer after being released by Italian Serie A side Udinese, just days before the close of the summer transfer window.
With this move, Success quits European football ten years after first arriving at Granada youth team from local Nigerian academy club, BJ Foundation.
Having previously played for top clubs like Udinese in Italy, Granada and FC Málaga FC in Spain, and Watford in England, the forward will add depth to Al Wasl’s attack for the 2024-2025 season.
Success also has a distinguished international career, notably winning the Golden Boot at the 2013 Africa U17 Cup of Nations with seven goals and helping Nigeria claim the FIFA U17 World Cup title in the same year.
Throughout his professional career in Europe, Success registered 28 goals and 32 assists across 240 games.
Despite the UAE transfer window being closed, Al Wasl were able to finalise the deal as Success was a free agent.
The Nigerian forward had drawn interest from a Qatari club but ultimately chose to sign with the UAE champions. Al Wasl have not yet disclosed the financial details or the length of Success’s contract.
Success’s move to Al Wasl comes after a period of inactivity. His last appearance was for Udinese on May 19, 2024, where he played only seven minutes in a 1-1 draw against Empoli.
Now, the forward is set to reignite his career as Al Wasl compete in the UAE Pro League, the Presidents Cup, and the AFC Champions League this season.
