Dan Bardell believes Rangers could be at a disadvantage playing away from Ibrox to begin the season, with questions asked over chairman John Bennett’s handling of the situation.
The Gers announced via their official website on 15 July that they would play their opening home games of the Scottish Premiership season at Hampden Park.
Philippe Clement’s side are set to play at least five games at the Scotland national stadium due to delayed building works [The Scottish Sun].
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has slammed the Light Blues for the situation they’re in, arguing that it could hamper their early-season form.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, Bardell said: “It’s far from ideal. You’ve got to question whether it all could have been planned better by those at the club.
“It is never a good look unless you’re building a new stadium when you have to play at another ground. We’ve seen it in the past and it isn’t really asking fans to travel to a different place every week.
“It isn’t familiar and Hampden isn’t their ground so I think in a way it’ll be a disadvantage and a leveller for opposition teams. That certainly isn’t what Rangers need when every point is crucial.
“I just think no matter where they play, it isn’t Ibrox and it isn’t their home. It is not a good look.“
Rangers to start season away from Ibrox
The situation at Ibrox has caused plenty of problems already before the new Scottish Premiership season has even begun.
This started with the hierarchy assessing Murrayfield as a potential option before moving forward and securing a spell at Hampden.
The Gers will now be forced to pay an additional outlay in order to ensure the national stadium is ready for their first home game against Motherwell [Football Scotland].
It is safe to say there has been enough turbulence for Philippe Clement by way of transfers, with plenty of incoming and outgoings already confirmed.
The Belgian will be hoping that his side can deal with playing in a new home ground to begin the campaign with a squad full of fresh faces.
