Defender still awaiting response from Manchester United over potential move

Former Atletico Madrid defender Mario Hermoso was offered a new deal by Los Colchoneros in December, but after neglecting it, has known he would not be in the Spanish capital since spring. However he is yet to find a new side.

In recent days it was revealed that Hermoso had been offered to Manchester United, following Leny Yoro’s injury, with the Frenchman out for several months. However Matteo Moretto has told Football España that United are yet to respond to the player’s agent, as they focus on other priorities such as Nousair Masraoui or Matthijs de Ligt.

Moretto goes on to point out that in Serie A alone, Juventus, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Napoli and Bologna have all received his CV and a call from his agent. The 29-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League too.

Hermoso was a key part of Atletico’s title win in 2021, and featured during many of their best moments in more recent seasons too. The left-footed centre-back is characterised by the fact he has performed much better as part of a three, or in a backline with a much more defensive full-back. His best attribute is his ability to bring the ball out of the back, taking charge of Atletico’s construction of attacks.
