Dyche set to name teenage sensation in Everton matchday squad v Southampton - report

Sean Dyche is set to name Harrison Armstrong in his Everton matchday squad to face Southampton on Saturday, according to Liverpool World.

The Merseyside news outlet reported on Friday [1 November] via its website, that the 17-year-old is expected to be named amongst the substitutes at St Mary’s amid the mounting injuries in central midfield.

Armstrong made his full senior bow for the Blues against this weekend’s opponents in the 1-1 draw at Goodison Park in the Carabao Cup and was removed before the hosts subsequently lost the penalty shootout.

Sean Dyche is ready to place his trust in youth at Everton

Dyche has enjoyed a remarkable turnaround of fortunes in the Premier League this year however, the squad is wearing thin ahead of a crucial tie against Southampton with the Toffees boss eager to put as much daylight between his side and the relegation zone as possible.

James Garner has joined Tim Iroegbunam on the sidelines with the 23-year-old not expected to return until after the November international break.

This leaves Dyche with Abdoulaye Doucoure, Orel Mangala, and Idrissa Gueye as senior options in the centre of midfield, the Blues are teetering one more injury away from a potential crisis.

However, Everton called upon 19-year-old Roman Dixon to deputise at right-back in the 4-0 loss against Tottenham at the beginning of the season, and seemingly a similar approach will be adopted once again with Armstrong set for another run in the first team.

The boss is all too aware of the quality the England Under-18s international can bring to his side, advocating for his accelerated development through the ranks at Finch Farm.

While his minutes will undoubtedly be minimal on Saturday, he has already rubbed shoulders with the Saints and came out the other side. Should he be called upon to impact the game at St Mary’s, it will be a perfect audition to lay down a statement for more first team involvement in the future.
