'England love him' - Wenham blown away by what he's seen from 'Amazing' Tottenham loanee

John Wenham has sung Dane Scarlett’s praises as the Tottenham striker begins to find his feet on loan at Oxford United.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose claims the 20-year-old is loved by England, once again making an impact for the Young Lions during the October international break.

Scarlett made a tough start to life on loan with Oxford United. However, he is beginning to find some form, scoring in back-to-back Championship matches.

The striker made his first Championship start of the season on Tuesday (22 October), opening the scoring as Oxford United drew 1-1 with Derby County at the Kassam Stadium.

That followed his late equaliser off the bench in a 1-1 draw with West Brom at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday (19 October), once again in the Championship.

As a result, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – hopes the Spurs youngster can continue to get out on the pitch.

“England love him, they absolutely love him,” Wenham said.

“He was captain of the Under-20s and was then called up to the Under-21s, where he scored straightaway.

“I’m pleased by his recent form, it is good for his confidence and keeps him going. He scored an amazing header against West Brom, which gave him the confidence to start in the next game and score again.

“I just want him to be out there playing football because he knows where the back of the net is.

“He continues to prove that every time he plays for England and now Oxford United.”

It is amazing the difference a week can make in football. Ahead of Oxford United’s draw with the Baggies, Spurs might have been thinking about the need to recall Scarlett.

However, after his goal off the bench, he was given the opportunity to start, and he grabbed that opportunity with both hands.

Therefore, after scoring in back-to-back games, Scarlett will surely be handed more starts for Oxford United. As a result, Ange Postecoglou will no doubt be delighted.

If Scarlett can come through a tough start on loan with Oxford United and bounce back to have a good season, the young striker will likely return to Hotspur Way a much more confident and well-rounded player.

In other Tottenham news, the club could allow Timo Werner to leave in January.
