Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Dan Friedkin still faces “hurdles” in his bid to buy the club but the takeover is progressing “even quicker than I expected”.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested the American billionaire will need to pay off debt and put funds in place to complete the Bramley-Moore Dock stadium.

The Friedkin Group is closing in on a takeover at Everton, with multiple sources claiming current owner Farhad Moshiri has granted them an exclusivity agreement.

Roma were purchased by the 59-year-old in 2020 and won the Europa Conference League two years later.

777 Partners and MSP Sports Capital have previously been granted exclusivity in their bids to buy Everton, but were unable to complete a takeover.

Everton takeover could clear ‘hurdles’ in as little as two weeks, says Wyness

However, Wyness insisted Friedkin could clear the Premier League’s hurdles and give the club “breathing space and positivity” in as little as two weeks.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Friedkin should sail through the owners’ and directors’ test.

“I believe he will do what the Premier League had asked of 777 – pay off the debt, give the club resources to get through the season, and ensure there is money to finish the stadium.

“In the next two weeks, that should give us the breathing space and positivity.

“The deal’s not done yet, of course, there are still those hurdles to go through.

“Nevertheless, things look very positive. It seems to have gone even quicker than I expected.

“We’re in a great place going forward.”

In other news, midfielder passes Everton medical and agrees three-year deal.
