Everton could yet be docked further points by the Premier League, according to the Times.
The newspaper reported online on Wednesday (4 September) that the Toffees will not need to pay the full £4.9million legal costs from last season’s Profit and Sustainability Rules case.
However, the club are still involved in another legal battle with the Premier League. This case involves whether or not Everton can take £6.6million in interest payments relating to their new stadium out of their PSR calculations.
The £4.9million costs do not cover this case. Should the club lose, they could be handed a further points deduction by the Premier League.
Everton at risk of further points deduction in the Premier League
They say that every grey cloud comes with a silver lining. However, in the case of Everton, that doesn’t appear to be the case.
It seems that all that surrounds Goodison Park at the moment are incredibly grey clouds with no silver lining. Even after discovering that they would not need to pay the full £4.9million in legal costs from last season, it looks as though they will soon be facing fresh legal costs from other cases.
The Toffes and the Premier League appear to be in an ongoing legal battle which has no end in sight, and supporters of the club will just be desperate for these troubles to pass.
The constant risk of point deductions hanging over Goodison Park is preventing Everton from pushing on as a club, and perhaps slowing down any potential takeover.
Therefore, fans will hope that this latest legal battle with the Premier League is the last one.
