Everton could sign in-demand star as rival move ruled out - report

Jaden Philogene has chosen to accept an offer from the Premier League, one of which is from Everton, rather than make his “dream move” to Barcelona, according to Ser 100.

Journalist Santi Ovalle told the Catalan station’s Què T’hi Jugues programme on 5 July that the Hull City winger had indicated the English top flight suits him the best at this stage of his career.

The 22-year-old said that former Camp Nou stars Ronaldinho and Neymar are his idols and he does wish to follow in their footsteps one day, but not this summer.

West Ham and Ipswich are said to have also made offers to sign the winger, remaining in the race alongside Everton now that the player himself has ruled out the giants from La Liga.

Sean Dyche may have seen Jack Harrison return to Goodison Park on loan and versatile forward Iliman Ndiaye arrive on a permanent deal but he isn’t overwhelmed with attacking options and plenty more activity is in the works after those two arrivals [Alan Myers, 3 July].

The Leeds United man only fills the gap that he himself had vacated at the end of last season while fellow loanee Arnaut Danjuma also departed, with Ndiaye more suited centrally.

Philogene impressed in the Championship last term after leaving Aston Villa, scoring 12 goals and assisting six in 32 league outings.

That has clearly generated plenty of interest and it would be a boost to the Toffees if they could see off the competition for the young Englishman.

Jack Harrison, Everton
Everton have already brought winger Jack Harrison back from Leeds United on loan this summer.

A decision appears to be imminent as Fabrizio Romano claimed on 4 July that Philogene’s future will not turn into a saga and to “get ready” for a conclusion.

It looks like part of the decision has now been made with Barcelona ruled out until some point in the future, giving Everton a chance to pick up a talented young star.

In other Everton news, the Toffees have tabled an eight-figure bid to sign an international ace who has scored in this summer’s tournament.
