Everton final league position predicted by supercomputer after Brighton loss

Everton are still expected to avoid relegation from the Premier League despite their 3-0 defeat to Brighton, according to the Opta Analyst.

The Analyst’s supercomputer has predicted (19 August) that Sean Dyche’s side will finish 15th this season, despite their opening-day loss to the Seagulls at Goodison Park.

Sean Dyche’s Toffees were well beaten by Fabian Huzeler’s side, with the disappointing defeat compounded by Ashley Young’s red card midway through the second half when he pulled down Kaoru Mitoma.

The supercomputer gives the Blues a 0.53 per cent chance of finishing in the European places this term, but there is still a 17.49 per cent chance they could be relegated to the Championship by the end of the campaign.

However, their projected points total is 42.6, almost eight points higher than Leicester City who are expected to occupy the final relegation spot.

Will Everton be relegated from the Premier League?

While morale will be low around Everton supporters following that opening day display, this prediction shows that fans cannot read too much into what happened at Goodison Park on Saturday (17 August).

Yes, Dyche’s side were nowhere near good enough and they will have to improve quickly if they want to climb the table, but there is still plenty of football to be played and plenty of time for them to get up and running.

The Blues were without the likes of Jarrad Branthwaite and James Garner who were sidelined through injury, while new signings Iliman Nidaye, Jesper Lindstrom and Jake O’Brien had to settle for a place on the bench.

Once the summer signings get up to speed and the injured players return to the fold, this Toffees side will be a competitive force in the Premier League.

There should be more than enough quality for the Blues to dodge the drop comfortably, but fans will still hope to see a much-improved performance against Tottenham next time out.
