Everton-linked ace pushes to quit his team as two Euro clubs make approach - report

Fenerbahce and Besiktas have approached Newcastle United about signing Everton-linked right-back Kieran Tripper, according to talkSPORT.

Alex Crook reported [4 September] that Fenerbahce boss Jose Mourinho is a fan of the Newcastle ace, who is pushing to leave Tyneside after falling down Eddie Howe’s pecking order.

The Toffees chased a move for Trippier and still had not given up hope of signing him after the deadline, having heard there were talks between him and Newcastle to potentially terminate his contract [Caught Offside, 3 September].

The Turkish transfer window remains open until 13 September giving Super Lig clubs plenty of time to get their business done, and Giovani van Bronckhorst’s Besiktas have also approached the Magpies over Trippier.

Everton hopes of Kieran Trippier are fading

Everton were always up against it in their attempts to sign Trippier due to the 30 August transfer deadline.

By contrast, Mourinho and the like have the luxury of losing much of their competition for players in the coming days.

Newcastle would prefer to negotiate with foreign clubs for the 33-year-old, who retired from international football last month to prolong his club career, to avoid strengthening a rival and to not be forced into tearing up Trippier’s contract to grant him his move and lose him for nothing.

Seamus Coleman has only just recovered from his calf injury and Nathan Patterson has not played since mid-April, meaning youngster Roman Dixon has been drafted in by Sean Dyche and the club could do with another right-back in the building.

But it looks as though that man will not be Trippier, and some square pegs in round holes or another scour of the free agent market will be the only alternatives.
