Everton ready to accept star player offer - Transfer Guru

Everton will listen to offers for Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the January transfer window if the money would allow them to sign a replacement.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that it may be difficult to find buyers mid-way through the season.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 3 December that the 27-year-old is planning to run down his contract and move on a free amid interest from AC Milan.

His potential availability for free come the end of the season has put clubs including the likes of Newcastle and Arsenal on alert with a possible move in mind.

However, Brown has now insisted that Everton could accept offers in January in a last-ditch attempt to raise money which could be reinvested into the squad.

It was claimed that the striker’s lack of goals have raised red flags at Goodison Park and they are now interested in bringing in a replacement mid-way through the season.

Calvert-Lewin has scored just two goals in 14 league appearances so far this season, and failed to find the net again during his side’s 4-0 thumping of Wolves on 4 December.

Brown previously told Football Insider that the Toffees have already begun working on the signing of a new centre-forward ahead of the January transfer window.

Now, the former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after spending over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted that they could use the money from Calvert-Lewin’s sale to boost their kitty.

“If they can sell him for big enough money, they’ll do it,” he told Football Insider.

“But it’s got to be enough so that they can take the money and reinvest in a new striker.

“Otherwise, they’ll just be left with Beto leading the line and nobody to come in behind him.

“Most of the interest in signing him is because he might be available for free, so whether those sides are prepared to make an offer in January, I’m not sure.

“If they can find a buyer who’s willing to pay a good enough fee, then they’ll let him go.

“If not, he’ll probably leave for free, because he’s already turned down contract offers from them and it looks like he’ll be moving on.”
