Everton set to pocket initial £5m as multi-million agreement reached over Goodison exit - report

Everton are set to pocket an initial £5million as Marseille are set to sign Neal Maupay on loan with an obligation to buy, according to Athletic.

The news outlet reported on 29 August that the total package of the deal is expected to be around £8.4million.

The 28-year-old had one year left on his deal which is why the Toffees were initially hesitating to send him on loan.

This is considerably higher than the £3.3million reported by French media outlet L’Equipe.

Everton get a good deal from Neal Maupay’s departure

Letting the Frenchman go represents a strategic move for the club, aligning with their need to refresh the squad and manage financial resources efficiently.

Maupay, with only a year left on his contract, posed a risk of leaving on a free transfer, potentially for nothing in return.

By securing a deal with Marseille, Everton not only avoid this scenario but also gain a significant financial return.

The £8.4million package, especially considering Maupay’s performance and market value, is quite impressive.

This deal not only offloads his wages from the books but also provides funds that could be reinvested into the squad, either for new signings or to bolster other areas of the club’s operations.

Moreover, with Maupay not fitting into Sean Dyche’s long-term plans, his departure makes room for new talent or different tactical approaches, potentially revitalising the Toffees’ attacking options.

In other Everton news, a club has issued a £9million demand as the Toffees have made contact for a new deadline-busting transfer.
