Everton star not yet travelled to pre-season camp as new injury update emerges - report

Vitalii Mykolenko has not travelled to Ireland with the rest of the Everton squad for their pre-season training camp, according to Liverpool World.

The outlet reported on its website on Tuesday (16 July) that the Ukrainian international has remained at Finch Farm as he continues his rehabilitation for an ankle injury that impacted his involvement at Euro 2024.

Although he has not made the initial trip to the Emerald Isle ahead of the Toffees’ pre-season showdown with Sligo Rovers on Friday (19 July) he is expected to join the rest of the squad in Ireland in the coming days.

Has Vitalii Mykolenko got a new injury amid Everton pre-season absence?

It was always unlikely that Mykolenko would return from Euro 2024 fully fit and ready to be involved in the entirety of the Toffees’ pre-season given his lack of action during the tournament because of injury.

If anything, it was impressive that the defender managed to get himself fit enough to be included in Ukraine’s squad at all after he suffered an ankle injury during the Blues’ famous Merseyside derby win at the end of last season.

Hopefully, he won’t be rooted to the sidelines for too long and will be able to step up his preparations ahead of the new season sooner rather than later as he was a crucial part of Sean Dyche’s side’s success last term.

He may not be every pundit or supporter’s cup of tea, but last year he made that left-back position his own with a string of energetic and committed performances that won over the majority of his doubters.

The pre-season clash with Sligo may have come a bit too soon for Mykolenko to return to the fold, but his return can’t be too far away if Dyche is expecting to have him with the rest of the first-team squad in the coming days.
