Everton takeover latest: 'Big Friedkin update for Chelsea clash'

The Friedkin Group (TFG) are set to officially take over Everton and representatives of the new ownership are “likely to attend” the upcoming Chelsea clash, The Athletic report.

According to the outlet’s website on 18 December, an official announcement is “expected” as soon as (19 December).

The report also states that the process is in its final stages as “official documentation has been completed”.

TFG reached an agreement to take over Farshad Moshiri’s majority stake at the club back in September, and the deal is finally now considered to be a done deal.

Chelsea visit Goodison Park on Sunday (22 December) and fans are expected to see the first attendance of the new American ownership group at a Toffees match, having stayed out of the picture previously.

The Friedkin Group already have big plans with Everton

Football Insider opinion

Football Insider exclusively revealed in November that the US billionaire is on course to complete the deal before the end of December. That deal finally looks to be completed, and Everton fans can celebrate.

The group already appear to have plans in place. Despite reports suggesting they might appoint a foreign manager after finalising the takeover [The i], Sean Dyche won’t leave immediately.

Everton
Sean Dyche is set to stay at Everton amid speculation of his departure.

They currently have no desire for an “immediate change” but that stance could shift if the club fails to improve their form. The Texas-based Friedkin Group is determined to avoid another relegation battle, as it could “halt their future plans”.

The Toffees sit 16th in the table, just four points above the drop zone. Dyche’s team have struggled for goals this season, scoring only 14 in 15 games, and striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin could soon leave Goodison Park.

The outgoing majority shareholder Moshiri, will leave the club in a dire financial state, saddling it with debts worth £600 million.

It’s unclear whether TFG will invest in the squad immediately in January, but doing so would provide the perfect opportunity to win over fans who have long called for Moshiri’s departure.

In other news, an Everton defender could be on the way to Manchester City.
