Everton taking action over Neal Maupay controversy - Sky update tonight

Neal Maupay will be dealt with internally by Everton after his social media post mocking the club, Sky Sports journalist Alan Myers has reported.

The striker has endured a tough time at Goodison Park after joining from Brighton in the summer of 2022, scoring just once in 32 appearances in all competitions.

He has since been loaned out to Marseille for the current campaign. Though he is still technically owned by the Toffees, he did not hold back in poking fun at the club on social media after their 2-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Sunday (29 December).

It appears that has not gone unnoticed by Everton themselves. According to Myers, the club are aware of the comments made online by Maupay, and will be dealing with them, but will do so in an internal matter.

If there had been any lingering doubt about it, there is surely now no way back for Maupay when it comes to his time on the blue half of Merseyside.

The striker has made his feelings pretty clear about Everton here, and after comments like that which could be seen at a dig at the rest of the squad, it is hard to imagine they will want him back in a dressing room that may have other issues to deal with after that.

Supporters of the club would not be too keen to welcome back someone who feels that way about their club either, and it is not as though his record on the pitch redeems him for the Toffees either.

Neal Maupay looks to have burned his bridges with the Toffees

With that in mind a parting of the ways does seem best for all concerned here, and Marseille do have the option to buy at the end of this season.

Given he seems to be faring somewhat better in France than he has been with Everton, there may be a chance they will take up that opportunity.

Considering the way things have gone, everyone connected with the Toffees will surely be hoping that does indeed happen.

In other news, Everton’s two priority signings for the January transfer window have been revealed.
