Everton to now make late call on player involvement v Man United - report

Armando Broja remains in contention to face Manchester United despite looking “a bit stiff” in an Everton Under-21s match, Joe Thomas has said.

The Liverpool Echo journalist posted on X (29 November) after Broja was substituted in the Blues Under-21s’ Premier League 2 match against Nottingham Forest, resulting in a 4-2 defeat at Finch Farm on Friday (29 November).

Broja and fellow striker Youssef Chermiti both started and played most of the match as they continue their returns from injury, with Broja still yet to make his Toffees debut since arriving on loan from Chelsea.

Thomas said: “That’s it for Broja, replaced after 73 minutes by Jacob Beaumont-Clark. Looked a bit stiff as he walked off but [that’s] to be expected after so long out.

“A good run out even if Everton have struggled today. Club to consider his involvement at Old Trafford after this game.”

Everton need Armando Broja fit and firing v Manchester United

While Broja won’t be expected to be named in the starting XI at Old Trafford as he was at Finch Farm on Friday, Evertonians are crying out for something different up front in a bid to address their ailing form.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto have been the only strikers at Sean Dyche’s disposal this season, but so far have just three goals between them, with regular starter Calvert-Lewin’s last coming in September.

The last three games, since a 94th-minute Beto equaliser against Fulham, have seen the Blues fail to find the net, resulting in defeat to Southampton and back-to-back 0-0 draw with West Ham and Brentford.

As a result, it’s clear that Dyche needs an alternative to Calvert-Lewin in particular, who scored in back-to-back games before a dry run of eight – a spell which he and the Blues must bring to an end soon.

The eventual arrival of Broja off the bench – after three months of waiting – could prove to be the turning point in Everton’s season, and fans will hope they can finally get a sight of him at Old Trafford on Sunday.

In other Everton news, the Friedkin Group’s new-look boardroom are preparing to make a big decision on Sean Dyche’s future.
