Bryan King believes Dele Alli would be better off signing for Como rather than Everton.
The ex-Goodison scout thinks it is time for the Toffees to cut ties with the 28-year-old, especially after an update emerged on their contractual liability to Tottenham.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano via X [16 December], Alli is set to begin training with Como later this month with the hope that he can join Cese Fabregas’ side, although nothing is guaranteed at the stage,
Alli has been told by Everton that a new contract with the club is still a possibility [via Graeme Bailey, 17 December], after a shock twist emerged that he is continuing to train at Finch Farm rather than with Como [via David Anderson, 17 December].
However, King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – doesn’t think Alli will be able to work his way back into the first-team picture at Goodison Park.
“There doesn’t seem to be high competition for his signature,” King said.
“Therefore, there likely wouldn’t be too much money involved in a deal. However, I think Alli joining Como would be a move which suits everybody. He needs to get back playing, and I can’t see him returning to the Everton first team anytime soon.
“If he is fit enough, and he can play, I think Como would be a good place for Alli to rebuild his football career. Therefore, I think at this moment in time it would be best for Everton not to sign him.”
Dele Alli to say goodbye to Everton and join Como?
It seems as though it is a long way back for Alli at Goodison Park.
He has been training with Everton for months now yet doesn’t appear any closer to earning a new contract with the Toffees, as speculation and uncertainty drag on.
After all of his injury setbacks, getting himself back into Premier League shape might be tough. Therefore, moving to Italy, arguably a less physically demanding league, might be the best move for his career.
Therefore, if Como are willing to welcome him, and he has a chance to earn a contract with the Serie A side, that is what he should look to do, and Everton must encourage him to do this.
