Exclusive: How Arsenal now feel about signing Viktor Gyokeres after he failed to score against them in midweek

Sporting Lisbon strike Viktor Gyokeres is one of the hottest properties in Europe right now and Arsenal are among the teams casting admiring glances in his direction.

Gyokeres has been a revelation in Lisbon since his move from Coventry and after scoring 29 league goals last season, the Swedish star is already on 16 for this campaign.

Despite his form, new Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim will not make a January move for Gyokeres.

However, that doesn’t mean someone else won’t and Arsenal are very much keeping a close eye on Gyokeres’ situation.

What Arsenal think of Viktor Gyokeres after he drew a blank against them for Sporting Lisbon

TBR Football understands that Viktor Gyokeres failure to score against Arsenal this week has not impacted on their interest in the Swedish superstar.

Gyokeres has emerged as one of the most in-demand strikers in the world and his form this season has been staggering.

However, Sporting’s 5-1 loss to Arsenal saw him brilliantly marshalled by William Saliba and Gabriel.

Despite his inability to score – TBR Football sources have confirmed that Arsenal’s interest in Gyokeres remains and they fully appreciate his talents.

TBR understands that Gyokeres is one of a handful of strikers that Arsenal are doing their work on ahead of bringing in a new forward next year.

Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, Gyokeres’s compatriot, remains a player that within the club they hugely admire and his lack of a new deal has put his suitors on alert for 2025.

Arsenal also have a long-standing interest in Dusan Vlahovic and they continue to keep tabs on his situation.

Is Viktor Gyokeres the missing pieces of the Arsenal jigsaw?

It’s become a bit of a theme now with Arsenal that we get to every transfer window and they’re told to go and buy a new striker.

Gabriel Jesus has not worked and while Kai Havertz is doing well, there are still reservations over whether Arsenal lack that killer number nine.

Gyokeres, of course, very much ticks the boxes to be that number nine. Strong, quick, and a lethal finisher with both feet, the Swedish forward looks destined for a huge move at some point.

January looks unlikely for Gyokeres to go anywhere but come the summer, we can expect the striker to be on his merry way and it might just be Arsenal who come out on top.
