Exclusive: Luton Town eye move for Wycombe Wanderers star

Luton Town and Standard Liege are eyeing moves for Wycombe Wanderers midfielder Tyreeq Bakinson in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Belgian side Standard Liege have held a long-term interest in defensive midfielder Bakinson and they have continued to monitor his situation at Wycombe.

Meanwhile, Luton are also weighing up a move to bring Bakinson back to Kenilworth Road – with the 26-year-old starting his career at the club.

The Hatters are looking to bolster their midfield after a disappointing run of form in the Championship this term.

Bakinson has made 20 appearances across all competitions for high-flying Wycombe so far this season, but only four of those have come as a starter in League One.

The defensive midfielder joined the Chairboys on a free transfer in the off-season after the expiry of his contract at Sheffield Wednesday.

Luton weigh up Bakinson reunion in January

He has played 55 times in the Championship during spells with the Owls and Bristol City and could add to that number if he seals a move to Luton in the new year.

Bakinson played six times for the Hatters after coming through the club’s academy, but left to join the Robins in 2017.

The London-born star is also attracting interest in Belgium from Standard Liege, who are mid-table in the top division despite recent financial worries.

Luton sit 19th in the Championship after relegation from the Premier League last term, while Wycombe are top of League One after a blistering start to the 2024-25 campaign.
