Pep Guardiola is unlikely to be under much pressure despite Man City’s poor form but one Premier League club are keen to tie down their own coach just in case City come knocking.
Guardiola has overseen the worst run in form since he arrived at the club. However, he has committed to fresh terms, stopping any immediate cause for panic at City and other clubs.
With City looking to get Hugo Viana in quickly, there is awareness at the club that a big summer lies ahead.
However, Premier League club Bournemouth are taking no risks and according to TBR Football sources, are looking to get manager Andoni Iraola secured.
Bournemouth want to give Andoni Iraola new contract amid Man City interest
TBR Football understands that Bournemouth want to tie down Andoni Iraola to a long-term contract in the New Year.
The Spanish head coach arrived at the Vitality Stadium from Rayo Vallecano in 2023 and impressed hugely in his first season as the club secured a record point haul.
Iraola penned a 12-month extension in the summer, taking him to 2026 but that still means he has just 18-months left on his current deal,
Club supremo Bill Foley firmly believes Iraola to be a special talent and is more than willing to extend his stay on a long-term basis.
The club have backed Iraola and spent nearly £100million last summer. They also brought in highly regarded managing director Tiago Pinto as they look to push into the being a top-ten Premier League side.
TBR Football understands that Iraola is regarded with immense potential by a host of clubs and he was one name Manchester City were impressed by as they looked at potential options had Pep Guardiola decided to leave the club.
But City are not alone in their admiration of Iraola and Bournemouth are aware that his work is generating interest but they are confident he sees his future with them.
Iraola is a real success story for other Premier League clubs
There was a short time when Andoni Iraola was under pressure at Bournemouth as he started quite poorly and looked a bit lost.
However, they have stuck with him and been proven right in doing so as the Cherries are now a very real threat at Premier League level and have some top players to boot.
The key for Iraola and Bournemouth now is consistency. And in order to get that, they need their man committed to the cause for the foreseeable future.
It’s no surprise, then, that a new deal is in the works.
