Finance Expert fires Everton new relegation warning after Bramley Moore Dock update

Football finance expert Dan Plumley has warned Everton any naming rights deal for the Bramley Moore Dock Stadium will be impacted by potential relegation.

Reports suggest that Asian automobile giant Toyota may be one of the companies to hold discussions with the Toffees over a deal for their new stadium before the Blues move into the ground next season [TBR Football, 30 September].

While that sort of deal could see Everton pocket millions, Plumley has said any sponsorship deal will massively reduce in value if the Blues are relegated from the Premier League this season.

“Everything shifts slightly with relegation to the Championship,” exclusively told Goodison News.

“That’s just the football ecosystem in English football and it’s all about exposure and getting eyes on screens.

“With the Premier League being a global product that is broadcasted over 200 territories worldwide, there is an exposure piece that comes with that from a sponsor point of view.

“Naturally, if there are any deals that are done, you would see them reduce in value nowadays if you were relegated.

“A lot of those deals will have clauses in contracts now that state as such, so there will be a reduction that is agreed if the worst case scenario, in this case, relegation, happens.”

Will Everton be relegated from the Premier League amid Goodison Park updates?

With a takeover agreement reached with the Friedkin Group off the field and results beginning to turn on it, the Toffees appear to have an excellent chance of climbing away from the relegation zone this season.

There is still a lot of work to be done before the Blues can consider themselves well and truly safe from relegation, but most pundits and supporters seem to feel that Sean Dyche’s side will be a Premier League team by the time May rolls around.

From a footballing standpoint, it is vitally important that the Toffees don’t slip into the Championship. But with the new stadium now close to completion, it is perhaps now more important from a business standpoint as well.
