Finance Expert: Rangers to work smarter as 'Savvy Negotiations' at play for loan bid

Rangers’ loan bid for Sevilla ace Joan Jordan is proof they are attempting to work smarter in the transfer market and use “savvy negotiations” to get deals done, according to Dan Plumley.

It was reported that the Gers’ initial loan bid for the midfielder was to cover less than 30 per cent of the 30-year-old’s wages (Máximo de la Cruz Ramirez), which the LaLiga club rejected.

Football finance expert Plumley said such an offer is indicative of the fact the Light Blues are not shopping in the top market of European football but that there are still smart deals to be done.

Speaking to Ibrox News, Plumley said: “It’s through no fault of Rangers’, it’s circumstantial sometimes isn’t it?

“We’re talking about a huge football club where there are financial constraints around the league and what it can generate and then what the clubs can generate in revenue terms.

“Rangers are just not in a position to compete right at the top end of the player market in European football and that’s kind of evident when you see bids like this [for Jordan].

“That’s not to say there’re not deals that can’t be done and not savvy negotiations you can look to do it, which is where this offer has been positioned.

“It’s not impossible but you’re behind the biggest clubs in the market. That’s not just Rangers that’s a whole host of European clubs across the system.

“That’s the realistic position they’re in and they’ve got to work differently and smarter to get good deals done.”

Rangers have to get clever in the transfer market

Philippe Clement will be reasonably happy with the incoming at Ibrox so far this summer but the likes of Connor Barron and Hamza Igamane represent a look to the future.

What the Belgian will want now is some much-needed experience to guide the younger heads in the squad but the truth of the matter is quality costs.

So, they have to get creative in the market and, while the offer for Jordan probably feels a little bit of a low-ball proposal, you can understand why the Gers would have it as a starting point.

As the window progresses, they will have to keep finding new ways of bringing quality players to Govan without breaking the bank to do so.

In other Rangers news, Wayne Rooney has reacted amid the Gers’ interest in Morgan Whittaker.
